DARRTOWN BICENTENNIAL

Darrtown will be 200 years old, on April 4, 2014.



Plans Underway for Bicentennial Celebration: In the fall of 2011, persons who attended a Darrtown "Gathering," at Darrtown's historic Hitching Post tavern, initiated steps to organize a Darrtown Bicentennial for the summer of 2014.

Subsequently, seven individuals volunteered to serve on a steering committee to gather ideas and acquire support for a 2014 Darrtown Bicentennial celebration. The organization and progress of the Bicentennial Steering Committee is described on the Planning Page (see link below).
The Bicentennial Steering Committee adopted the following purpose statement:

"To acknowledge and celebrate the bicentennial year of Darrtown, through the provision and promotion of Darrtown-related activities, events, exhibits, and memorabilia that commemorate the 200-year history of the village."

Financial Support Needed: The Steering Committee has identified numerous Bicentennial expenses; click the Program page link (above) to access a TENTATIVE list of expenses and events.

While the Steering Committee will seek financial support from various foundations and sponsors, the bulk of financial support must come from individuals who value the history of Darrtown and want the Bicentennial to be successful.

To make a financial contribution to the Darrtown Bicentennial, please make your check or money order payable to the "Darrtown Bicentennial Fund"and mail your donation to Ron Wiley at 5321 Coulter Lane / Oxford, Ohio / 45056.

DONATIONS: How can I donate to the Darrtown Bicentennial? Send checks or money orders to Ron Wiley / 5321 Coulter Lane / Oxford, Ohio / 45056. Please make your check or money order payable to the "Darrtown Bicentennial Fund."

DONATIONS: Is my donation tax-deductible? Unfortunately, the Bicentennial does not qualify as a tax-deductible donation.

DONATIONS: What happens to any money that is left-over after the Bicentennial concludes? After all Bicentennial projects are concluded, the Bicentennial Steering Committee will disperse any and all remaining funds to one, or more, non-profit organizations, within Milford Township.

DONATIONS: May I donate in the memory of another person or persons? Yes. The Donors page enables donors to designate the person or persons to be commemorated.

EVENTS: What events will occur during the Bicentennial? When and where will Bicentennial events occur? The Steering Committee is in the process of identifying and scheduling events. As plans are finalized, an official list of events will be provided (see the Program page).

EXHIBITS: How can I arrange to exhibit a Darrtown-related item (i.e., photograph, newspaper clipping, historical artifact, etc.) at the Bicentennial? If you possess some Darrtown-related item that you think should be exhibited during the Bicentennial, please contact any Steering Committee member (see contact info on the Planning page).
